1. Introduction to Asking About Quantity
We ask “How many…?” when we want to know the number of people, animals, or things.
Structure:
🔹 How many + plural noun + are there?
🔹 There are + number + plural noun.
2. Examples

| How many books are on the table? | There are five books. |
| How many cups do you see? | I see four cups. |
| How many boys are in the class? | There are seven boys. |
| How many apples are in the basket? | There are two apples. |
Note: Use “is” when the object is just one.
e.g. How many pens are there? There is one pen.
3. Singular and Plural Nouns (Quick Review)
Singular = one object → pen, cup, bag
Plural = more than one → pens, cups, bags (usually by adding -s)
Examples:1 pencil → pencil
3 pencils → pencils
1 apple → apple
4 apples → apples
4. Class Practice and Drills
A. Count and Ask:
Teacher shows 4 pencils and asks:

Pupils respond:
